About Castro Verde

Castro Verde is a municipality in Portugal with a population of just over 5,000. The town is located in the district of Beja in the Alentejo region, about 100 kilometers from the Portuguese capital of Lisbon. The municipality covers an area of nearly 400 square kilometers. The economy of Castro Verde is based on agriculture and livestock farming. The area around the town is known for its cork oak forests. The municipality is also home to a number of wind farms. Castro Verde was first settled by the Romans who called the town Castrum Verde. Later, the Moors occupied the town and renamed it Qasr al-Bard. The Moors were eventually driven out of the town by Christian forces in the 13th century. Today, Castro Verde is a quiet town with a relaxed lifestyle. The town's small size means that there are few tourist attractions. However, the town is a good base for exploring the surrounding countryside.
